The shopping and lifestyle complex, Assembly Row, first opened its doors in Somerville, Massachusetts four years ago. Over those years the complex was under continuous construction. Yet over the summer, with the completion of phase two, the complex saw a mixture of new retail storefronts, restaurants, apartments and the 158-room Autograph Hotel, the Row Hotel at Assembly Row.

The Assembly Row project in its entirety sets to showcase it’s own neighborhood feel with primary care doctors, convenience stores, retail, restaurant and living spaces. With the complex just north of Boston proper, the Row Hotel at Assembly Row sets to be a destination in itself.

The Row Hotel at Assembly Row considers itself, “…close enough to the city, but far enough from the busy. Ours is a hotel near Boston exactly like nothing else, with an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking.”

Marriott’s Autograph Collection is an elite series of boutique hotels across the world. Marriott describes the Collection as, “Each one is chosen for its founder’s passion, the thoughtfulness of its design, its inherent craft, and its connection with the locale. Our aim is to showcase some of the most beautifully orchestrated hotel experiences the world has to offer.”

Interestingly, the hotel sits on the historic site of Henry Ford’s assembly plant. Those industrial aesthetics are seen throughout the interior design. The luxury experiences and modernly crafted design is unparalleled where each element of the interior was thoughtfully and purposefully crafted including the art and furniture.
PROCON Inc., who specialize in the hospitality marketplace, completed the project’s design/build services. Working closely with the team at PROCON, CEI Materials fabricated numerous exterior components on the building’s façade. The single-skin horizontal wall panels (HWP) and louvers were fabricated by CEI in addition to the exterior metal composite panels, which were fabricated utilizing CEI’s customizable R4000 Drained/ Rear-Ventilated Rainscreen Panel System.
In an article by Adam Smith of Improper he describes, “There’s no denying this tall, dark hotel is a masculine nod to the former Ford factory of Assembly Row: The front door is flanked by I-beam columns and topped with black granite carved in art deco-like patterns. Inside, the place is draped in muted grays, coffee browns and polished bronze, while echoes of the 1920s are everywhere, in design and antique displays. Leo Xarras of XSS Hotels states, ‘We wanted it to be a celebration of the past.’”
